How to use the BMI Calculator
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². WHO adult categories: under 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 healthy, 25–29.9 overweight, 30 and above obesity.
BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis. It doesn't distinguish muscle from fat and isn't designed for children or pregnancy.
Frequently asked questions
Is BMI accurate for athletes?
Often not: muscular people can read as overweight. Waist measurement adds useful context.
Does BMI differ for Asian adults?
Some health bodies use lower cut-offs (overweight from 23) for people of Asian descent.
